Abstract
ABSTRACTNon-immune hydrops has been defined as either the presence of anasarca with fluid in one or more serous cavities or fluid within two body cavities. With the increased utilization of ultrasound, the reported prevalence of non-immune hydrops has increased dramatically. Approximately 60–70% of cases of non-immune hydrops are due to one of six causes: chromosomal defects, anemia, cardiovascular problems, thoracic problems, twinning, and infection. A thorough ultrasound examination, including echocardiography, appropriate maternal blood work, amniocentesis, and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, when indicated, will aid the clinician in diagnosing most cases of non-immune hydrops.
