Abstract

A non-enzymatic chemical sensor for lactate (LA) detection based on an extended-gate type organic field-effect transistor (OFET) is reported. The proposed device is composed of an extended-gate electrode modified by an artificial receptor phenylboronic acid derivative as the detection part and the OFET as the drive part. The mechanism of LA detection relies on the changes in transfer characteristics of the OFET upon dynamic covalent bonding with LA. After evaluating the ability of the device to detect LA, it was applied to the selectivity study. This report proved the possibility of using the OFET-based sensor device for non-enzymatic LA detection.
