Abstract

AbstractThe mathematical description of a non‐centrosymmetric section, trapezoid shoulder is presented and the equations of the bending curve, the shoulder curved surface and the fringe curve are developed. Triangular, flat‐round, rectangular and round shoulders are discussed as special cases of the non‐centrosymmetric shoulder. To confirm the validity of the mathematical description, 3‐D shoulders are modelled on computer, and actual shoulders are manufactured by rapid manufacturing machine.
