Abstract

The dispersion relation and the radial distribution of the wave fields of m=+or-1 Alfven waves propagating in a cylindrical plasma have been calculated. It was assumed that a vacuum existed between the uniform plasma and the infinitely conducting boundary and consequently two boundary conditions were imposed on the wave fields; one on the radial current density and another on the radial magnetic field. The results are in better agreement with observations than some previous calculations that imposed a boundary condition on the radial magnetic field only.
