Abstract

Nomograms are valuable tools for many astronomical calculations. Two examples are given to illustrate quite different nomographic representations of the spherical cosine rule, covering (1) the atmospheric absorption at any required wavelength for a given geographical latitude, and (2) the spherical distance of a star from the apex. In the last-mentioned nomogram, which in some respects is not quite perfect, the characteristic features to be emphasized are projective transformations of a regular cosine scale.
