Abstract
Recently several noise suppression schemes have been proposed which are associated with the estimation of short-time magnitude spectra. In this paper the fundamental mechanism is discussed from a general point of view. Especially the issue of noisy phase and the theoretical limits of noise suppression are investigated. Experimental verification is based on a Polyphase-Network (PPN) filter bank.
