Abstract

We present and experimentally verify an averaging method to reduce significantly the speckle noise in the pattern of Young's fringes in speckle photography. With a rigid-body in-plane surface motion and a common photographic film, we observed a significantly noisy fringe pattern. Upon averaging several patterns taken from different parts of the transparency, the contrast and effect of the speckle noise are progressively averaged out to yield virtually a noise-free fringe pattern.
