Abstract

Abstract Any new form of transportation generally brings some new sort of nuisance to the persons using it. Air transportation, the newest and fastest form of travel, is no exception, and the chief deterrent to air travel is the noise to which the passengers are subjected. As it is impossible to discuss any physical phenomena without having measuring units and methods of securing them, a description of the decibel scale as well as a discussion of the commonly used noisemeter is given, including a description of a most inexpensive, simple, and yet very reliable tuning-fork method.
