Abstract

Abstract Pulse interval modulation (PIM) is an asynchronous form of pulse position modulation. In this paper, the noise performance of the PIM system has been theoretically and experimentally investigated. A simple formula for the detected signal to noise ratio has been obtained which compared well with the measured data. The effect of noise shaping networks on the noise figure of the PIM detector has been predicted.
