"Noel Polk e o principal editor das Edicoes Corrigidas dos romances de William Faulkner, nas quais examina minuciosamente os manuscritos e textos datilografados do autor a fim de restaurar, tanto quanto possivel, a intencao autoral, recuperando palavras, frases e pontuacao originais. Polk tem publicado inumeros estudos criticos sobre Faulkner, incluindo Intertextuality in Faulkner (Atas do Segundo Coloquio Internacional William Faulkner em Paris, 1982), New Essays on The Sound and The Fury, um volume da serie “O Romance Americano”, da Cambridge University Press, Faulkner's Requiem for a Nun: A Critical Study (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1981), An Editorial Handbook for William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury (New York: Garland Pub., 1985.), Children of the Dark House: Text and Context in Faulkner (Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, 1996), Reading Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury (Glossary and commentary by Stephen M. Ross and Noel Polk (Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, 1996), entre outros. Durante vinte e sete anos foi professor do Departamento de Ingles da University of Southern Mississippi e editor da revista The Southern Quarterly. Polk tem feito conferencias na Europa e na Uniao Sovietica.
