Abstract

Gold and palladium were deposited by rare gas ion bombardment of metal foils onto alumina powder which was agitated in front of the sputter targets in a rotating conical vessel. The amount of deposited metal on the powder increased with the sputter fluence, reaching up to around 3 wt%. The coating was macroscopically visible as coloration of the powder. The sputter deposited noble metals form nodules on the oxide powder surface.
