Abstract

ALTHOUGH IT IS ONLY JULY, AT C&EN our thoughts are already turning to the Nobel Prize announcements in October. Maybe we are merely in the midst of the summer doldrums and need a diversion, or perhaps we are spurred to thinking about the Nobel Prize because of two stories in this week's issue —an appreciation of Nobel Laureate Donald J. Cram (see page 38) and a story about the Nobel Foundation's Virtual Internet Museum, also known as Nobel e-Museum (see page 42). A few words about each story. Cram, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1987, died on June 17 at the age of 82. The outpouring of affection for this tall, imposing, friendly, and brilliant man was enormous and immediate.
