Abstract

At an authorization hearing held June 10, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration submitted a request of $1,924 billion to Congress for fiscal year 1994, an increase of $208 million (12%) over its fiscal 1993 appropriation. Requests for the largest increases are centered in several of the agency's highestprofile programs. They include $440 million (an increase of $72 million from fiscal 1993) for the National Weather Service's Operations and Research Program; $673 million (an increase of $65 million) for the NWS's Systems and Acquisition effort; and $69.9 million (an increase of $23 million) for the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research's Global Climate Change Research Program.
