Abstract

Congress has appropriated roughly $1.83 billion for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for fiscal year 1995, which comes in just under the President's request of about $ 1.96 billion for the agency.Finalized last month, the conference agreement includes $259 million or about $21 million more than requested for oceanic and atmospheric research. The conferees allocated $78 million for the Climate and Global Change program, including $7 million for the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program. About $26.8 million of the remaining climate change funds are for research on the role oceans play in climate.
