Abstract

Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) and evaporated thin solid films of cobalt, nickel and copper tetra-tert-butyl phthalocyanine complexes (MPc t) have been prepared on various substrates. The formation of floating monolayers for these materials and their surface pressure-area isotherms are discussed. A detailed spectroscopic characterization of the MPc t materials and LB layers is given using resonance Raman scattering (RRS), surface-enhanced {resonant} Raman scattering (SE{R}RS), transmission and reflection absorption FT-IR spectroscopy (RAIRS) and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The molecular orientation of MPc t molecules on LB monolayers deposited on smooth silver films and ZnS substrate is probed by RAIRS and transmission FT-IR spectroscopy, respectively. The effect of various pollutant gases (NO 2/N 2O 4, NH 3 and SO 2) on LB films of these materials is reported.
