Abstract

Dionne Brand’s A Map to the Door of No Return is meditation and reflection of the meaning of our conditions. As meditation it sings to us in a blue note that worries us, that lingers in the unsettled. It writes Black life as unsettled by the modern world and its maps. But Black life also unsettles the practices of cartography; indeed the maps that we have are political maps that are generated out of colonial desires.
