Combining live-cell imaging, cytogenetics, genome sequencing, and invitro evolution, Shoshani etal. (2020) revealed deep connections between chromothripsis, the catastrophic shattering of a chromosome in abnormal nuclear structures, and gene amplification, a frequent culprit of oncogenic activation.
