Abstract

A brief account of the poisoning of twenty-three Aborigines in 1848 at Kangaroo Creek in the Clarence River District, which represents a crisis in race relations, a catalyst for the articulation of conflict is presented. The depositions of the European witnesses to the Kangaroo Creek events, and documents tabled with the 1849 draft of a Bill to provide for the Evidence of Aborigines in courts of justice, are also presented.
