Abstract

Background: Local recurrence (LR) and distant metastasis in breast cancer vary according to its molecular subtypes, triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) having the highest rates of LR. The continuous decrease in size of margin width for breast conserving therapy (BCT) has been much debated in the last decade, yet still controversial. Although a "no ink on tumor" consensus was reached as a definition for negative margins, to date only one restrospective study investigated the relationship between the surgical margin width and LR rates in TNBCs. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of margin status on LR and overall survival (OS) following BCT in patients diagnosed with TNBC in our institution.
