Abstract

The incoming Biden administration in the United States will undoubtedly seek to reset the country’s relations with its European allies, and particularly with Germany. Berlin will welcome the move. However, unless both sides are willing to make compromises that will prove difficult domestically – on defence spending in Germany and on climate change in the US, among others – the reset will prove temporary.
