Abstract

We have studied 63Cu-NQR of Ca 0.85CuO 2 with the edge sharing CuO 2 chains. The magnetic susceptibility and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time, T 1 show spin gap behavior for magnetic excitations at the Cu site. A small hyperfine field at the Cu site is confirmed below 12.5 K by Cu-NQR, indicating a clear evidence for the coexistence of the dimer state and magnetically ordered state in the hole-doped chains of Ca 0.85CuO 2.
