Abstract

AbstractThe rate of conversion of the monomers and crosslinker in the formation of a novel semi‐interpenetrating poly(ethylene glycol)/ poly(2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropane sulfonic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) copolymer hydrogel was determined by using 1H‐NMR spectrometry. It was established that poly(ethylene glycol) does not participate in the polymerization reactions and that crosslinking by methylenebisacrylamide occurs predominantly in the early stages of copolymer chain growth. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
