Abstract
The field-dependence of spin-lattice relaxation in naphthalene and anthracene has been measured in dark and illuminated crystals at two temperatures (300°K and 77°K). The spin-lattice relaxation time T 1 in the dark crystals is essentially field independent for anthracene and for naphthalene at 77°K. Because of the excitons created, T 1 is shortened in the illuminated crystals and shows a field dependence, from which an average hopping time of the excitons can be determined, assuming an incoherent hopping model for the exciton migration.
