Abstract

The 19F NMR spectra of four cyclopentenes containing the CF 2CF 2CF 2 group have been fully analyzed to yield values for the 19F chemical shifts and all the (F, F) coupling constants (except that only relative values of 2 J FF are obtained). The methods of analysis, using composite particle wavefunctions, are discussed. The values of 3 J FF for the saturated molecular fragment are found to be in the range −8.5 to −4.4 Hz for the trans orientation and in the range −1.9 to +0.7 Hz for the cis orientation. The coupling constants are discussed in relation to other values in the literature.
