Abstract

1. The1H and11B NMR spectra of Y(BH4)3·2C4H8O indicate the existence of three processes which influence the shape of the lines; quadrupole relaxation of boron nuclei, intermolecular exchange of BH4, groups, and intramolecular proton exchange within each boron hydride group. 2. The authors have compiled a program and made theoretical calculations of the spectra, taking account of the influence of relaxation and exchange, and have determined the activation energies of the processes. The boron hydride protons are equivalent at −80°C, showing that there is only a low barrier to intramolecular proton exchange.
