Abstract

Free time is when we feel freedom in our inner world, where hopes and dreams determine our daily life and future life. Besides the personal skills, there are many sources from the social environment influencing the management of this time. The aim of this study was to implement the “Free Time Management Scale”. A total of 170 university students enrolled to Marmara University, Faculty of Sport Sciences participated in the study. The scale consists of 15 items and 4 sub-dimensions. “Goal and priority setting”, “planning”, “free time attitude”, and “evaluation” dimensions in these sub-dimensions were examined with demographic information. The Cronbach’s alpha value of the scale was 0.72. Since the data were distributed normally, two independent sample tests and independent samples t-test were used along with Pearson Correlation time management scale, age, class, department where they study and leisure time activity were investigated by multiple correlation analysis. According to the results of the study, there was a positive relationship between the students’ ages, their classes and the programming sub-dimension.It was determined that there was a strong positive relationship between weekly free time activities, students’ departments, goal setting and method sub-dimension. While there was a negative relationship between leisure time sub-dimension and the classes, there was a positive relationship with the number of leisure activities.
