Abstract

The purpose of this research; it is the study of the effect of emotional availibility to parents on the self-esteem and interpersonal competence in university students. The research is a predictive correlational pattern from quantitative research patterns. The study group consists of 446 university students studying at undergraduate programs at Marmara University, determined according to the principle of accessibility and availability. As a data collection tool; The Personal Information Form, Parental Emotional Availibility Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Interpersonal Competency Scale created by the researchers were used. In analyzing the data, Pearson Correlation Analyses and Simple Linear Regression analyzes were performed. According to the results obtained from the research; Emotional availibility to parents predicts self-esteem and interpersonal competence in university students. Some suggestions were made to the researchers and practitioners considering that the results will contribute to the literature on parent-child relationship, family therapies and individual therapies, interpersonal relations.
