Abstract

In the present study, we report the synthesis, physical chemistry and photochemical properties of trans-[RuCl([15]aneN 4)NO] 2+ in physiological solution. The nitrosyl ruthenium species undergoes one-electron reduction in aqueous solution producing trans-[RuCl([15]aneN 4)H 2O] + and nitric oxide (NO). The NO was also obtained with a laser flash-photolysis at 355 nm of trans-[RuCl([15]aneN 4)NO] 2+ in aqueous solution. The quantum yield for NO release was determined as 0.61 ± 0.05 mol einstein −1.
