Abstract

The current study was designed to find the effects of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) against rat serum and kidney oxidative stress biomarkers. Urea, creatinine (Cr), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), lipid peroxidation (LPO), total thiol groups (TTG), DNA damage, and nitric oxide (NO) were measured by spectrophotometric and immunoassay methods. Histopathological evaluation was performed using H&E staining. AgNP (250 ppm) caused a significant increase in kidney and serum oxidative stress biomarkers, serum concentrations of urea and Cr when compared to control group (p < .05). Our findings suggest that antioxidant properties of AgNP are in dose-dependent manner.
