Abstract
Nitrogen oxides are harmful compounds, dangerous to the natural environment. This review reports on progress in studies of catalytic processes to promote nitrogen oxide decomposition as well as catalytic NO reduction from mobile exhaust sources. The activities of catalysts receiving attention in the technical literature range from metallic ones to transition metal oxides supported on zeolites, metal oxides and magnesium fluoride. Also the current ideas on the mechanism of catalytic decomposition and reduction of nitrogen oxides are reviewed.
