Abstract

This study of nitrogen oxide (NO x) formation in a recovery boiler uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) combined with a detailed reaction mechanism. The model is used to reveal where NO x is formed in the recovery boiler and how different process parameters affect the emission. The CFD investigation includes a detailed model for black liquor droplet conversion and a model for the char bed behavior. The gas phase reactions are described using a reaction mechanism consisting of 21 species involved in 54 reactions.
