Abstract

1. 1. The total nitrogen content of embryos of the corroboree frog, Pseudophryne corroboree, remained constant from early cleavage through to hatching and, as there is no evidence indicative of ammonia excretion, it is concluded that no nitrogen is excreted by P. corroboree prior to hatching. After hatching, P. corroboree tadpoles excreted ammonia and their total nitrogen content fell. 2. 2. The ornithine-urea cycle is present in adult P. corroboree but in tadpoles argininosuccinate synthetase and lyase were not detectable which may indicate that these are the last parts of the cycle to be assembled in this species.
