Abstract
THERE is considerable interest at present in the photochemistry of the stratosphere because of fears that future pollution at high levels, for example by supersonic aircraft, may change the stratospheric ozone. The ozone shields us from solar ultraviolet radiations and life seems to be delicately adjusted to its presence. The possible influence of nitrogen compounds is the subject of special study but in no case is there yet any information about their distribution in the stratosphere and their photochemistry is in great doubt; the quantities involved are certainly very small.
