Abstract

1. 1. Local treatment of the cerebral ganglia with actinomycin-D causes in the fresh-water mussel ( Anodonta cygnea L.) tonic contraction of the posterior adductor corresponding to the physiological rest period. 2. 2. Simultaneously the Nissl-substance and serotonin content of the cerebral and visceral ganglia decrease considerably. 3. 3.5-HT synthesis is supposed to be regulated by the periodicity of RNA synthesis playing a leading role in the central regulation of periodic activity.
