Abstract

A nickel–alumina aerogel with fine Ni particles was synthesized. A uniform and monolithic NiO–Al 2O 3 aerogel was prepared from a mixture of cyclic nickel glycoxide, (CH 2O) 2Ni, and boehmite sol by increasing the pH gradually. The gel was allowed to stand in ethanol for 3 days, followed by supercritical drying with ethanol and subsequent calcination. Ni was uniformly incorporated throughout the alumina where both the metal and the support exist in the aerogel forms, i.e., Ni–O–Al bond was considered to be formed in the NiO–Al 2O 3 aerogel.
