Abstract

The chapter “Nine Pagoda, Nine Chinese Vegetarian House, and Nine Church Pilgrimage: Current Practice in Indochina in Post-COVID Pandemic Crisis Situation” will examine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected religious customs in Indochina. With a focus on three distinct examples—the Nine Pagoda pilgrimage, the Chinese Vegetarian House, and the Nine Church Pilgrimage in Indochina—the chapter will analyze how religious organizations and rituals have adjusted to the epidemic. The chapter will look at the difficulties these institutions have experienced since the pandemic, including as limitations on gatherings and travel, and how they have dealt with these difficulties. Furthermore, the chapter will investigate how these religious rituals have brought comfort and support to communities during a time of crisis, as well as how they may evolve in the aftermath of the pandemic. Overall, the chapter will shed light on the function of religion in Indochina during a period of crisis, as well as how it has evolved to meet the changing demands of its practitioners.
