Abstract

A frequency independent dielectric resonator array (FIDRA) is designed and investigated experimentally for X-band applications. In this proposed array, nine rectangular shaped dielectric resonators are arranged in log periodic fashion to attain electrical characteristics which will vary insignificantly with frequency over the entire desired bandwidth. The resulted frequency independent array offers up to 56% wider impedance bandwidth with a VSWR less than two. The bandwidth achieved by proposed FIDRA covers a frequency range 6.3-11.2 GHz which is the desired frequency range for X-band applications in communication engineering.
