Summary
Open Access (OA) publishing makes academic peer-reviewed research freely available online for anyone to read and reuse. In Autumn of 2020, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) ran a consultation to inform the review of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) OA Policy. The survey focussed on opportunities and barriers of OA, views on the existing NIHR OA policy and gathered specific feedback on proposed policy options (Annex A). The DHSC was interested in capturing a diversity of views from individuals and organisations both funded and not funded by the NIHR. This report presents the findings of the survey responses, which have played a key part in shaping the revised NIHR OA policy. Thank you to all 414 respondents who have taken the time to provide us with their views and perspective on OA publishing and policies
