Abstract

Over the years, Nigeria has been ranking very high among the countries with copyright piracy. 80%-90% of creative and copyrighted works had been pirated particular this decade. In the long-run, this was due to several lacunae and skeletal nature of the Nigerian Copyright Act. Hence, the author addressed this, precipitating on two ways the Act should step-up in this digital age. These are cable/satellite broadcast and computer software. He argued that the loophole interloping Section 51 and Section 8 (1) of the Copyright Act gives a technical avenue for Copyright infringement. Furthermore, the author explained that there should be individual copyright to license each author who put in expertise in computer software. He recommended a redraft of the Act and hammers that various stakeholders in broadcasting and tech community should be duly consulted too.
