Abstract

Due to improved diagnostic and therapeutic options, nowadays women with markedly impaired renal function of various etiologies are also able to become pregnant and give birth to healthy children; however, the care of these women is especially challenging, depending on the extent of impaired function and comorbidities. The aim of the recently published S2k guidelines is improvement of the interdisciplinary support of pregnant women with renal diseases. Recommendations on the care of these women have been developed and include the preconceptional counselling, evaluation of risks, the special aspects of antenatal care and prenatal diagnostics as well as the specific treatment options of the underlying disease during conception and the pregnancy.
