Civil disobedience is defined as an intentional break of the law. Its aim is to bring unjust laws or practices to public attention, in such situations when legal methods have been ineffective. Pro-animal activists use acts of civil disobedience too. They claim that this is an effective instrument of getting the public attention to the problem of cruelty to animals. Thanks to that, it is possible to evoke the debate leading to the modification of the law, for example banning particularly cruel methods of breeding. However, civil disobedience is controversial, because it violates the law. Therefore, there is an interesting discussion whether and when this method can be used.
