Abstract

1,6-Diphospha-1,5-hexadiene (II) has been prepared and its structure determined by X-ray crystallography. The reaction of II with the norbornadiene complex, III, yielded the first chelate ever of a 1,6-diphospha-1,5-hexadiene, IV. Its structure was also determined by an X-ray diffraction study. In solution IV has a fluctuating structure which could be described as a conformational isomerization.
