Abstract

Purpose Complete, accurate, and succinct neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) discharge summaries are necessary to provide effective transition of care between intensivists and primary care physicians. Adult research clearly shows the link between inaccurate and incomplete discharge summaries with medical errors, repeated unnecessary testing, and delays in appropriate care. This study will be the first to help guide and improve transfer of care of the high-risk neonate.
