Abstract

Abstract The characteristics and partial purification of a clostridial enzyme that catalyzes the reversible reduction of 6-hydroxynicotinic acid to 6-oxo-1,4,5,6-tetrahydronicotinic acid are described. This enzyme requires reduced ferredoxin or reduced methyl viologen dye as the electron donor. The enzyme is extremely sensitive to inactivation by air and iron-chelating reagents.
