Abstract

"Nicoletia" tergata Mills, 1940 is redescribed from new material recently collected in subterranean habitat in Florida as well as examination of some of the type specimens. The species is placed in a new genus Gibboletia within the subfamily Coletiniinae and thus represents the only species of this subfamily so far known in North America. Molecular data (16S rRNA) from one of two populations suggest they may represent different species; however, morphological differences were not found within or between populations. The legs of all specimens from one population reacted with the mounting medium whereas the other population mostly did not, suggesting a physiological difference may exist.
