Abstract

I was enjoying a glass of wine in the garden the other evening, when I was visited by Callum, the 5-year-old nephew of our next door neighbour. Callum has a loud voice for one so small and calls me David, which I like. Callum lives on the east coast of Scotland so I only see him a couple of times a year. At one point in our latest conversation there was a momentary pause while he was obviously thinking about something, then he looked me straight in the eye. “Do you know what Gran says about you, David?” he asked. I perked up at this. “No, tell me” I replied. “Gran says you hardly ever smile!”
