Abstract
The writer presents new archival evidence relating to Niccolo Gerini's panel painting Entombment and Resurrection of Christ, at S. Anna, Florence. The evidence confirms that the work was commissioned c. 1381–83 for the high altar of S. Michele by the Compagnia di Orsanmichele; provides new information on its original predella (removed in 1720) and about the early patronage of S Michele; and clarifies the conditions of the church's consignment to a Milanese confraternity resident in Florence in 1615 and the subsequent disputes between the two organizations over the decoration and upkeep of the church (now renamed S. Michele Vecchio).
