Abstract

In patients with insulin resistance and diabetes and characterized by multiple abnormalities in lipoprotein particle concentration and size, atherogenic dyslipidemia is associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). Studies have shown a strong negative correlation between high-density lipoprotein particle (HDL-P) concentration/large particle size and risk for CHD. A strong association has also been shown between high levels of small low-density lipoprotein particle (LDL-P) and CHD risk.
