Abstract

Some people were confused when Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, responding to a question about whether he had ever “blacked out” from drinking, responded that sometimes he fell asleep. He had been responding to questions from lawmakers about accusations by Christine Blasey Ford, Ph.D. (a psychologist and researcher) of sexual assault when he was 16. She said that he had been drinking excessively. Kavanaugh, who was confirmed as a Supreme Court justice just over a week later, denied the accusations in an angry tirade during his confirmation hearing.
