Abstract

With [Ni(phen)3]2+ complex as structural directing agent and charge-balancing ion, a new two-dimensional (2D) layered selenidostannate, namely, [Ni(phen)3]Sn3Se7·1.5H2O (1, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that compound 1 crystallizes in the trigonal space group R3¯ (No. 148) and features a 2D anionic layer of [Sn3Se7]n2n−. The anionic layers are perforated with large hexagonal-like windows and stack in an ABC sequence along the c axis. The thermal stability, optical property, and the theoretical band structure and density of states of compound 1 have been systematically studied.
